Laughter Yoga

What is Laughter Yoga.

"Laugh and the whole world laugh with you"

Laughter yoga is a relatively new concept in body-mind exercise. It combines simulated laughter exercises with gentle breathing techniques to teach the body how to laugh without relying on jokes or humor.

Laughter Yoga is a fantastic way of keeping fit and healthy whilst having fun.

It all started in a park in Mumbai, India in 1995 with just 5 participants by Dr. Madan Kataria, a family physician, and now there are thousands of Laughter Clubs in more than hundred countries around the world – just showing the need to laugh more.

Laughter Yoga is based on the principal that your body benefits from laughing even when we pretend to laugh. As long as you are willing to laugh you will get the psychological and physiological benefits of laughter. The good thing is that in our Laughter Exercises the simulated laughter soon turns into genuine, deep and hearty laughter.

Laughter Yoga is not a comedy. It is an exercise program for Health and Wellbeing. The yoga part of Laughter is the combination of Laughter Exercises with yoga breathing techniques (Pranayama). Besides, Laughter Yoga also being practised in Senior centres, age care facilities, schools and colleges, companies, corporations, factories, physically and mentally challenged, police and prisons.

Laughter Yoga is both preventive and therapeutic. It is like an aerobic exercise and best cardio workout. It is like a breathing exercise for those suffering from bronchitis and asthma. Laughter Yoga releases endorphins which are natural pain killers, that can help those suffering from arthritis, spondylitis, chronic migraine headaches, chronic pains, fibromyalgia, autoimmune and chronic inflammatory diseases.

It unwinds the negative effects of stress and strengthens your immune system. If you laugh every day, you will not fall sick easily. If you have chronic health conditions like heart disease, Hypertension, Diabetes, Depression, Anxiety, Panic attacks and even Cancer, you will heal much faster. Laughter Yoga increases oxygen to your body and brain, and makes you feel healthy and energetic. It is a great exercise for team building, peak performance, Creativity and emotional intelligence.

It is a combination of deep breathing techniques from Yoga and playful laughter exercises. Usually practiced in groups where you can make eye contact and connect with your sense of childlike behaviour.
